BIOS Anti-Bacterial® does not require the presence of sunlight to provide 24/7 anti-bacterial protection.

BIOS Anti-Bacterial is available in two forms:
Elimination of Bacteria in the Environment
These are the 4 strains of bacteria that are present all around the world (especially in Singapore) that are mainly the cause of hospital related infections: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus faecalis.
Both versions of BIOS Anti-bacterial (HYDROTECT or GRANITOGRES) are effective in eliminating 99.9% of these 4 strains of bacteria.
Anti-bacterial tiles are often confused with Anti-microbial tiles. Anti-microbial tiles do not eliminate bacteria, but simply prevent bacterial growth on the surface of the tile. They therefore do not provide the protection that is required.
BIOS Anti-Bacterial® – HYDROTECT®
If you have read about BIOS Self-Cleaning, you would know that the HYDROTECT technology is about the breaking down of harmful substances through the reaction with sunlight and Titanium Dioxide (TiO2).
The BIOS Anti-Bacterial version is an enhanced version of the self-cleaning technology because it does not require sunlight to be effective. This is because BIOS Anti-Bacterial is not only equipped with Titanium Dioxide (requires sunlight), but active noble metals too that does not require sunlight for a reaction to be triggered.
Meaning to say, the noble metals are active in killing bacteria 24/7. On top of that, when natural or artificial light is introduced, the rate of bacterial elimination will be far greater. The amount of light needed for the anti-bacterial reaction to trigger is 0.25 mW/cm2 , which is equivalent to the ultraviolet intensity from just next to a window in daylight.
BIOS Anti-Bacterial® – GRANITOGRES®
Patented by Casalgrande Padana, BIOS Anti-Bacterial – GRANITOGRES was developed in partnership with the Department of Biomedical Science, Microbiology Section, of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
This technology refers to a silver-based anti-bacterial treatment that allows the tile to eliminate bacteria with or without light.
The main difference of this technology compared to all other tiling anti-bacterial technologies in the world is that this treatment is applied throughout the body of the tiles. As a result, users can be rest assured that the anti-bacterial feature will not weaken or disappear over the course of time. That being said, BIOS Anti-Bacterial GRANITOGRES is the only anti-bacterial solution suitable for areas with high amounts of traffic.
BIOS Anti-Bacterial GRANITOGRES uses silver (a noble metal) as its active agent and has been tested and certified by world accredited agencies.
